The University of Manchester Equity and Merit Scholarships are now open for outstanding students from Ethiopia, Malawi, Rwanda, Tanzania, Uganda, and Zimbabwe. These fully funded scholarships are designed for individuals who are committed to making a positive impact in their home countries and lack the financial means to study in the UK. The programme offers opportunities for both on-campus one-year master’s degrees and online part-time master’s courses. It covers full tuition fees, living expenses, return flights, and visa costs. Applicants must have a strong academic background and at least two years of professional experience.

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA
• Be a citizen and current resident of Ethiopia, Malawi, Rwanda, Tanzania, Uganda, or Zimbabwe.
• Have not previously studied outside Africa (short-term training under six months is allowed).
• Hold a bachelor’s degree earned before September 2022.
• Be in the top 10% of your graduating class.
• Have a minimum of two years’ professional experience in a relevant field (not voluntary or unpaid).
• Demonstrate a clear commitment to return home and contribute to development.
• Meet the English language requirements for the chosen course (if shortlisted).
• Have a strong academic background and show potential for leadership.

REQUIRED DOCUMENTS
• A valid national ID or passport.
• Degree certificate(s).
• Academic transcript(s).
• Curriculum Vitae (CV).
• Personal statement.
• Proof of English language proficiency (if available).
• Two reference letters (preferably academic and/or professional).
• Evidence of current employment or professional experience.
APPLICATION PROCEDURES
• Submit scholarship application online between 1–31 August.
• Upload all required documents during the application.
• Wait for eligibility review in September.
• If eligible, receive invitation to apply for academic admission between 1–31 October.
• Do not apply for university admission before receiving the invitation.
• Shortlisted candidates may be invited for interviews or to submit English language test scores.
• Results announced in June.
• Successful applicants begin their studies in September.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
• The scholarship supports both full-time on-campus and part-time online/distance master’s programmes.
• Applicants must demonstrate a clear commitment to returning to their home country after completing their studies.
• The programme prioritizes candidates who show leadership potential and a focus on sustainable development goals.
