The program is offered at Ben-Gurion University of the Negev (BGU), where the African Studies program has earned an international reputation for excellence. Hosted within the university’s African Studies framework, the program combines academic rigor with practical engagement. Students complete two semesters of intensive study at BGU in Israel, followed by field-based research and/or internship experience in Africa.

AVAILABLE PROGRAMS

The MA in African Sustainable Communities is a year-and-a-half-long program (three semesters, plus additional write-up time for Thesis Track students).

The program offers two tracks:

Applied Track – Designed for most students, focusing on practical community initiatives and professional engagement.

Thesis Track – Designed for students pursuing in-depth academic research.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

The program structure is uniquely divided between Israel and Africa. Students complete two semesters of intensive coursework at BGU in Israel. In the third semester, students relocate to Africa to conduct research or participate in a professional internship or community initiative, with continuous academic supervision and support from program staff.
