Berea College is a private liberal arts work college in Berea, Kentucky, United States. Founded in 1855, Berea College was the first college in the Southern United States to be coeducational and racially integrated. This shows the institution’s courage to values such as inclusion, equity, and impartial love. It was incorporated from as early as 1866 until 1904, and again after 1954.
The annual enrollment at Berea College is about 1500 students from all over the world in different faculties. Likewise, there are several scholarships granted annually to support the incoming with about 77% attending at zero cost (Fully Funded Scholarship). SCHOLARSHIP BENEFITS:
Berea College offers significant scholarship benefits for the academic year 2025-2026 to ensure students graduate with little to no debt. Key benefits include:
• Tuition Coverage: All enrolled students receive full funding that covers 100% of tuition for all four years. This is provided through financial aid and scholarships, allowing both domestic and international students to study tuition-free.
• Additional Financial Support: For international students, the scholarship also covers housing, meals, and fees. However, students are encouraged to save $1,000 annually to contribute to personal expenses.
• Work-Study Opportunities: Through Berea's Work Program, every student is guaranteed a paid on-campus job, in the first year. These earnings help students manage personal and other incidental expenses.
• Enrollment Deposit for International Students: Accepted international students must pay a $2,200 deposit to confirm enrollment, which can be used for expenses during their studies. Additional financial aid is available if students cannot afford this deposit.
• Summer Job Assistance: Berea College facilitates summer jobs for international students to help them meet their annual savings expectation

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA:
1. Academic Requirements: Applicants should have a strong academic record, with most admitted students ranking in the top 20% of their high school class, and maintaining a GPA of at least 3.0.
2. Test-Optional Policy: Berea College has adopted a test-optional policy, meaning that students can choose not to submit ACT/SAT scores. However, if test scores are provided, they must meet the minimum criteria (ACT score of 19 or SAT score of 980)
3. Holistic Review: In addition to academic qualifications, Berea considers other factors like leadership qualities, community service, extracurricular activities, character, and motivation
4. Financial Need: Berea College places a significant emphasis on financial need. All students admitted to the college receive 100% of tuition covered through a combination of scholarships and financial aid, and they must demonstrate financial need during the application process
5. English Proficiency Test Results: scores between 20 and 30 on the ACT (or SAT equivalent), or 520 on TOEFL's paper-based exam, 68 on TOEFL's internet-based exam, or an overall 6 on IELTS, or 95 on the Duolingo exam. However, this is not required for all students but recommendation for all of them.
REQUIRED DOCUMENTS:
Here are the required documents for applying to Berea College based on the applicant type:
1. First-Year Students
• Completed application (Berea College Application Portal).
• Official high school transcript(s).
• ACT, SAT, or CLT scores (optional but recommended).
• School report form and teacher recommendation.
• Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) for U.S. citizens or Permanent Residents (to demonstrate financial need).
2. International Students
• Completed international application form.
• Official secondary school records.
• English proficiency test scores (TOEFL, IELTS, Duolingo, etc.).
• Two recommendation forms (teacher and school counselor).
• Financial resources information, including a Declaration of Finances form.
3. Former Students (Readmission Applicants)
• Readmission application form.
• Official transcripts for any coursework completed during your time away from Berea College.
• Additional documentation may be required to explain the circumstances of withdrawal and readiness to return.
4. Transfer Students
• Completed transfer application form.
• Official transcripts from all post-secondary institutions attended.
• Final high school transcript or equivalent (e.g., GED).
• Recommendation letter(s) from a current or former professor.
• FAFSA submission for financial need assessment (U.S. citizens or Permanent Residents).
Berea College is test-optional, meaning students are not required to submit SAT or ACT scores. However, students can submit them if they believe it enhances their application.
HOW TO APPLY FOR THE SCHOLARSHIP:
Applying to Berea College requires several steps which are:
1. Create an Account
Visit the Berea College Admissions website and create an account on their application portal.
2. Complete the Application Form
Fill out the Berea College Online Application. You must provide personal details, educational history, extracurricular activities, and other relevant information.
3. Submit the Required Documents via your online portal
4. Submit a Financial Aid Application by filling out the following forms:
• For International students, All applicants must submit the questionnaire via their online application portal. We will not accept the CSS Profile or ISFSAA in place of the Berea College form.
• For Others, Applicants are required to submit the 2025-2026 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) at the scholarship link given at the bottom. Berea’s FAFSA code is 001955.
NOTE: No Application fees are required for the whole application.
APPLICATION DEADLINES:
1. First-year students
The early action I deadline is November 1, 2024, and the regular decision deadline is March 31, 2025.
2. Transfer students
The priority deadline is January 31, and the regular decision deadline is March 31.
3. International students
The Application deadline is 31st December 2024.
