The U.S. Embassy in Rwanda is pleased to announce that applications are now open for the prestigious 2027–2028 Fulbright Foreign Student Program. This highly competitive and fully funded scholarship opportunity is designed for qualified Rwandan professionals who wish to pursue a master’s degree in the United States. 

 

The Fulbright Foreign Student Program is sponsored by the United States Government through the U.S. Department of State and administered by the U.S. Embassy in Rwanda. The program partners with accredited universities and higher education institutions across the United States to provide international students with advanced academic training, professional development, cultural exchange experiences, and global networking opportunities. SCHOLARSHIP BENEFITS

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA

Applicants must meet the following requirements:

 

·       Must be a citizen, national, or permanent resident of Rwanda holding a valid Rwandan passport

·       Must be affiliated with an academic or non-academic professional institution in Rwanda

·       Must demonstrate commitment to returning and contributing to Rwanda after completing the program

·       Must possess the equivalent of a U.S. bachelor’s degree or at least four years of university study

·       Applicants with three years of tertiary education must have completed thirteen years of primary and secondary education and hold a degree that qualifies them for postgraduate studies in their home country

·       Must demonstrate strong English language proficiency

·       Must meet minimum standardized test requirements

·       Ideal TOEFL score is 100 or above (Internet-Based Test) or equivalent

·       GRE scores should be at or above the 50th percentile in either section

·       Must have outstanding academic records and strong references

·       Must have at least two years of relevant professional experience after graduation

·       Must demonstrate strong commitment to completing the program and returning home

·       Preference will be given to candidates who have not previously studied in the United States

·       Current employees of the U.S. Embassy are not eligible

The Fulbright Foreign Student Program supports fully funded master’s degree studies in various academic and professional fields offered by accredited universities in the United States. APPLICATION PROCEDURES

Application Steps:

 

1.     Prepare all required application documents

3.     Submit the application before the deadline  

4.     Wait for shortlisting and interview communication from the U.S. Embassy

Shortlisted candidates will be invited for an in-person interview at the U.S. Embassy in Kigali to determine semi-finalists.
