Akagera National Park, through Akagera Management Company Ltd (AMC Ltd), is inviting qualified and experienced candidates to apply for two exciting career opportunities: Assistant Conservation & Research Manager and Academy Director – African Conservation Academy. Akagera Management Company Ltd was established through a partnership between African Parks and the Rwanda Development Board (RDB) to manage Akagera National Park. The recruitment supports the park's ongoing commitment to conservation excellence, research, sustainability, and the development of future conservation leaders through the African Conservation Academy, a collaborative initiative involving African Parks, RDB, and the African Leadership University's School of Wildlife Conservation.

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA

Assistant Conservation & Research Manager

Applicants must:

1.     Be a Rwandan national.

2.     Hold at least a Graduate Degree in Ecology, Wildlife Management, Conservation, or a related field.

3.     Have a minimum of 2–3 years of relevant experience in ecology, conservation, wildlife management, or related research.

4.     Have experience working in protected areas or national parks.

5.     Demonstrate practical field experience and conservation research skills.

6.     Be fluent in English and Kinyarwanda.

7.     Possess strong computer skills, including GIS tools and statistical software.

8.     Hold a valid driver's license and off-road driving experience.

9.     Be physically fit and capable of extended fieldwork.

10.  Be between 20 and 35 years of age.

11.  Have the ability to swim.

12.  Have no criminal record.

Academy Director – African Conservation Academy

Applicants must:

1.     Possess relevant tertiary qualifications.

2.     Have a minimum of 10 years of relevant professional experience.

3.     Have at least 5 years of senior management experience.

4.     Demonstrate strong project, organizational, and team leadership skills.

5.     Possess proven business or operational management experience.

6.     Demonstrate excellent stakeholder engagement and communication skills.

7.     Be fluent in English.

8.     Knowledge of French, Portuguese, or another African language is an added advantage.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Assistant Conservation & Research Manager

1.     Support conservation research, ecological monitoring, and data collection activities.

2.     Assist in wildlife management decision-making through data analysis.

3.     Coordinate research collaborations with local and international institutions.

4.     Compile, analyze, and report ecological and conservation data.

5.     Generate maps and reports to support park management decisions.

6.     Contribute to long-term sustainability strategies and conservation planning.

7.     Design and improve monitoring and evaluation protocols.

8.     Support field operations, including work with law enforcement tracking teams.

9.     Maintain research documentation, reports, and management plans.

10.  Ensure accurate reporting of conservation metrics and project outcomes.

Academy Director – African Conservation Academy

1.     Lead the development and launch of the African Conservation Academy.

2.     Provide strategic leadership and institutional direction.

3.     Oversee campus development and operational management.

4.     Develop business, financial, and sustainability plans.

5.     Manage budgets and identify funding opportunities.

6.     Lead and supervise academy staff and teams.

7.     Build partnerships with governments, donors, educational institutions, and conservation organizations.

8.     Ensure high-quality training and learning experiences for participants.

9.     Promote the Academy as a leading conservation capacity-building institution in Africa.
