ALU SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATION DEADLINE  EXTENDED TO 31 JULY 2026


Applications are now open for the African Leadership University (ALU) Rwanda September 2026 Intake. Students from Africa and around the world who are passionate about leadership, innovation, and creating positive change are encouraged to apply. The application deadline has been extended to 31 July 2026, giving eligible applicants additional time to submit their applications and compete for scholarships and grants. Founded to develop the next generation of African leaders, ALU works with leading partners, including the Mastercard Foundation, to make quality higher education more accessible. Through its innovative learning model, practical experience, and strong Pan-African network, ALU prepares students with the skills, mentorship, and global connections needed to build impactful careers.

 

SCHOLARSHIP BENEFITS

Successful applicants may receive full or partial financial support through ALU scholarships and grants, including:

 

·       Full scholarships in partnership with the Mastercard Foundation.

·       Full tuition fee coverage.

·       Living allowances for eligible full scholarship recipients.

·       Laptop provision.

·       Financial support based on academic merit and demonstrated financial need.

·       Leadership development opportunities.

·       Mentorship from industry professionals.

·       Networking opportunities with global organizations.

 

ALU Tuition Grants

ALU also offers tuition-only grants that:

 

·       Cover tuition fees only.

·       Apply for the minimum duration of the degree programme.

·       Are non-redeemable in cash.

·       Do not require repayment.

·       Do not cover accommodation, living expenses, or other additional costs.

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA

 

Admission Criteria

Applicants must:

 

·       Have completed secondary education (A-Level or equivalent).

·       Have passed at least three A-Level subjects (or equivalent), including at least one recognized core subject.

·       Provide an equivalency certificate where applicable.

·       Demonstrate English language proficiency at a minimum B2 level or sit for ALU's free English Proficiency Test.

 

Scholarship Criteria

Applicants must:

 

·       Demonstrate genuine financial need.

·       Be 26 years old or younger.

·       Show strong academic performance.

·       Demonstrate leadership potential and active community involvement.

·       Be committed to creating positive impact within their communities.

 

Special consideration is given to:

 

·       Female applicants.

·       Refugees and displaced persons.

·       Applicants with physical or learning disabilities.

 

AVAILABLE PROGRAMS

Students applying to the ALU Rwanda Campus (Kigali Innovation City, Bumbogo) may choose from the following undergraduate programmes:

 

·       Bachelor of Science in Entrepreneurial Leadership (BSc EL)

·       Bachelor of Software Engineering (BSE)

·       BSc (Hons) International Business and Trade

 

REQUIRED DOCUMENTS

Applicants should prepare the following documents:

 

·       High school diploma or equivalent certificate.

·       Academic transcripts/reports for Grades 10, 11, and 12.

·       National ID or Passport.

·       Personal statement.

·       Proof of English proficiency.

·       Parent or guardian's bank or Mobile Money statements for the most recent three months.

·       Parent or guardian's employment confirmation letter.

·       Annual high school tuition fee document.

·       Sponsorship documents.

·       Death certificate of a parent (if applicable).

 

APPLICATION PROCEDURES

The application process consists of three simple stages:

 

Stage 1: Introduction

Complete the online application form with your personal information.

Stage 2: Additional Information

Upload all required documents and provide detailed academic and personal information.

Stage 3: Finances

Complete the Education Financing section to determine your expected financial contribution and scholarship eligibility.

 

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

·       The ALU Rwanda Campus is located in Bumbogo, Kigali Innovation City, next to Azam, Kigali, Rwanda.

·       Tuition grants only cover tuition fees and do not include living expenses.

·       The Mastercard Foundation–ALU partnership, launched in 2020, aims to develop and place 2 million young African leaders into dignified employment by 2030.
