FRE SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM 2026–2027


Applications are now open for the FRE Scholarship Program 2026–2027, offering financial assistance to qualified Rwandan students pursuing higher education. Students who demonstrate academic excellence, financial need, and a commitment to their educational goals are encouraged to submit their applications before the deadline. The Foundation Rwanda Education (FRE) Scholarship Program is funded through the generosity of donors committed to expanding access to higher education for Rwandan students. The program provides partial scholarship grants to students studying in Rwanda and abroad, with priority for the 2026–2027 academic year given to students enrolled at accredited universities and colleges within Rwanda.

SCHOLARSHIP BENEFITS

Successful applicants will receive a range of benefits, including:

 

·       Financial assistance ranging from USD 500 to USD 5,000 per academic year.

·       Opportunity to reduce the financial burden of tuition and other educational expenses.

·       Support for students pursuing higher education in Rwanda or internationally.

·       Renewal opportunities for previous FRE scholarship recipients who continue to meet eligibility requirements.

 

Important: The FRE Scholarship Program provides partial financial assistance and does not offer full scholarships for U.S. universities. Scholarship amounts are determined solely by the FRE Scholarship Committee and the FRE Board of Directors

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA

Applicants must meet the following requirements:

 

·       Be a student of Rwandan descent or currently residing in Rwanda.

·       Complete the official scholarship application and submit all required supporting documents.

·       Demonstrate genuine financial need.

·       Show strong academic performance, achievements, and potential.

·       For the 2026–2027 cycle, priority will be given to students attending a recognized university or college in Rwanda.

·       Renewal applicants must have received an FRE scholarship within the previous 12 months.

 

AVAILABLE PROGRAMS

The FRE Scholarship Program supports students pursuing higher education at accredited institutions in:

 

·       Undergraduate degree programs

·       Universities and colleges in Rwanda

·       Eligible higher education institutions abroad, including the United States (subject to FRE policies)

The scholarship is not restricted to specific academic disciplines, allowing students from a wide range of fields to apply.

REQUIRED DOCUMENTS

Applicants should prepare the following documents when completing the online application:

 

·       Completed scholarship application form

·       Proof of Rwandan nationality or residence

·       Evidence of admission or enrollment at a university or college

·       Personal statement or scholarship essay
