FULL FUNDED SCHOLARSHIP IN JAPAN 2027
Applications are now open for the Honjo International Scholarship Foundation Scholarship 2027 in Japan. International students from all countries are invited to apply for this prestigious fully funded scholarship to pursue Master's or PhD studies at Japanese graduate schools. The scholarship is funded by the Honjo International Scholarship Foundation (HISF), a Japanese non-profit organization dedicated to developing future global leaders through higher education. Applicants can apply directly to the Foundation without requiring university nomination, making the application process accessible to qualified international students worldwide.
SCHOLARSHIP BENEFITS
Successful applicants will receive:
· Monthly scholarship stipend based on the duration of the degree:
o ¥230,000 per month for programs lasting 1–2 years.
o ¥210,000 per month for 3-year programs.
o ¥180,000 per month for programs lasting more than 3 years.
· Financial support for the minimum standard period required to complete the degree.
· Opportunity to study at accredited Japanese graduate schools.
· Direct application without university pre-selection.
· Access to networking events and activities organized by the Honjo International Scholarship Foundation.
· Opportunity to join the Foundation's international alumni network.
ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA
Applicants must meet the following requirements:
· Be a non-Japanese citizen.
· Be applying for or enrolled in a Master's or PhD program at a Japanese graduate school.
· Applicants may apply from outside Japan if they have been accepted by a Japanese graduate school.
· All academic disciplines and research fields are eligible.
· Master's applicants should generally begin their program before turning 30 years old, while PhD applicants should generally begin before turning 35 years old.
· The intended period of enrollment must be longer than 12 months.
· Demonstrate a strong commitment to contributing to the development of their home country after graduation.
· Be willing to participate in Foundation events and alumni activities.
· Possess sufficient Japanese language ability for basic communication, as interviews are generally conducted in Japanese.
AVAILABLE PROGRAMS
The scholarship is available for graduate studies in all academic disciplines, including but not limited to:
· Engineering
· Computer Science & Information Technology
· Business & Economics
· Natural Sciences
· Social Sciences
· Agriculture
· Medicine & Health Sciences
· Education
· Environmental Studies
· Humanities
· Law
· Arts and Design
Students may enroll at any eligible Japanese graduate school offering Master's or Doctoral programs.
REQUIRED DOCUMENTS
Applicants are generally required to submit:
· Completed online application form.
· Recent passport-style photograph.
· Two-minute self-introduction and research presentation video.
· Academic transcripts.
· Curriculum Vitae (CV).
· Personal statement.
· Research plan.
· Letter of recommendation.
· Letter of admission or acceptance from a Japanese graduate school (if available or applicable).
· Any additional supporting documents requested in the application guidelines.
APPLICATION PROCEDURES
1. Confirm that you meet all eligibility requirements.
2. Apply for admission to an eligible Japanese graduate school if you have not yet secured admission.
3. Prepare all required application documents.
4. Complete the online scholarship application through the Honjo International Scholarship Foundation portal.
5. Upload all supporting documents before the deadline.
6. Successful applicants will be shortlisted for document screening and interview.
7. Final scholarship recipients will be announced after completion of the selection process.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
· Approximately 10 scholarships are awarded each year.
· Applications are accepted directly by the Foundation without university recommendation.
· The selection process consists of document screening followed by an interview.
· Interviews are usually conducted in Tokyo or online for overseas applicants.
· Final scholarship recipients are expected to maintain satisfactory academic progress throughout their studies.
· The scholarship is intended for students pursuing full-time Master's or PhD degree programs at Japanese graduate schools.
