Applications are now open for the African Leadership University (ALU) Rwanda January 2027 Intake. Passionate, ambitious, and purpose-driven students from across Africa and beyond are encouraged to apply for this life-changing opportunity. Through a range of scholarships and grants, eligible students can pursue a world-class university education while reducing or eliminating the financial burden of tuition. Founded with the mission of providing higher education for a higher purpose, ALU partners with globally recognized organizations, including the Mastercard Foundation, while also offering prestigious merit-based awards such as the Mandela Scholarships. ALU combines academic excellence with experiential learning, leadership development, and real-world experience to prepare graduates who will transform Africa and the world.

 

SCHOLARSHIP BENEFITS

 

Mastercard Foundation Scholarships

Successful applicants get:

 

·       Full tuition scholarships.

·       Full tuition fee coverage.

·       Living allowance.

·       Provision of a laptop.

·       Flight ticket

·       Financial support based on academic excellence and demonstrated financial need.

·       Leadership development programmes.

·       Mentorship from industry leaders.

·       Networking opportunities with global organizations.

 

Mandela Scholarships

The Mandela Scholarships provide tuition support for the entire duration of the degree programme: 

 

·       USD 3,000 per year for Bachelor of Science in Entrepreneurial Leadership (BSc EL) & Bachelor of Science in Software Engineering (BSE)

·       USD 4,000 per year for BSc (Hons) International Business and Trade (IBT)

 

ALU Tuition Grants

Successful applicants get:

 

·       Cover part of tuition fees.

·       Are valid for the minimum duration of the degree.

·       Do not require repayment.

·       Are non-redeemable in cash.

 

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA

 

Admission Requirements

Applicants must:

 

·       Have completed secondary education (A-Level or equivalent).

·       Pass at least three A-Level subjects (or equivalent), including one core subject.

·       Provide an equivalency certificate where applicable.

·       Demonstrate English proficiency (minimum B2 level) or sit for ALU's free English Proficiency Test. JOIN OUR Coaching class for ALU ENGLISH TEST

 

Scholarship Requirements

Applicants must:

 

·       Demonstrate verified financial need (for need-based scholarships).

·       Be 26 years of age or younger.

·       Show strong academic performance.

·       Demonstrate leadership potential and active community engagement.

·       Commit to making a positive impact in their communities.

 

For the Mandela Scholarships, applicants should also:

 

·       Be top academic performers.

·       Demonstrate leadership, initiative, or entrepreneurial thinking.

·       Show integrity, resilience, and responsibility.

·       Be committed to creating meaningful impact across Africa.

·       Be financially prepared to cover accommodation, meals, and other living expenses independently.

 

AVAILABLE PROGRAMS

Students applying to the ALU Rwanda Campus may choose from:

 

·       Bachelor of Science in Entrepreneurial Leadership (BSc EL)

·       Bachelor of Science in Software Engineering (BSE)

·       BSc (Hons) International Business and Trade (IBT)

 

REQUIRED DOCUMENTS

Applicants should prepare the following documents:

 

·       High school diploma or equivalent certificate.

·       Academic transcripts (Grades 10, 11, and 12).

·       National ID or Passport.

·       Personal statement.

·       Parent or guardian bank or Mobile Money statements for the last three months.

·       Parent or guardian employment confirmation letter.

·       Annual high school tuition fee document.

·       Sponsorship documents (if applicable).

·       Death certificate of a parent (if applicable).

To be considered for admission and scholarships, applicants should complete the following steps:

 

Stage 1: Introduction

Complete the online application form by providing your personal information.

Stage 2: Additional Information

Upload all required supporting documents and provide detailed academic and personal information.

Stage 3: Finances

Complete the Education Financing section to determine your financial contribution and scholarship eligibility.

 

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

·       ALU Rwanda Campus is located in Bumbogo, Kigali Innovation City, Kigali, Rwanda.

·       The language of instruction is English.

·       The Mastercard Foundation–ALU partnership aims to develop and place 2 million young African leaders into dignified employment by 2030.
