Important Dates to Remember

Opening Date: The DV-2026 Diversity Visa Lottery opens for electronic registrations on Wednesday, October 2, 2024.

Closing Date: The registration period will close on Thursday, November 7, 2024.

Results Announcement: Lottery results will be made public on May 3, 2025, and successful entrants can begin the immigrant visa process starting in October 2025.

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA

To qualify for this program, applicants must meet the following requirements:

1. Country of Birth (Your birth country): You must be a native of a country with a low immigration rate to the U.S.
People from ALL COUNTRIES OF THE WORLD ARE ELIGIBLE to participate in the Green Card Lottery, EXCEPT persons born in BANGLADESH, BRAZIL, CANADA, CHINA (including Hong Kong SAR but excluding Macau SAR and Taiwan), COLOMBIA, CUBA, DOMINICAN REPUBLIC, EL SALVADOR, HAITI, HONDURAS, INDIA, JAMAICA, MEXICO, NIGERIA, PAKISTAN, PHILIPPINES, SOUTH KOREA, VENEZUELA, and VIETNAM.

You may still qualify to participate in the Green Card Lottery even if you were born in one of the ineligible countries listed above when:

If your spouse was born in an eligible country, then you can claim your spouse's country of birth.

If one of your parents was born in an eligible country, then you can claim your parent's country of birth.

2. Education/Work Experience:Applicants must either hold at least a high school diploma (or equivalent) or have two years of work experience within the past five years in a profession that requires at least two years of training or experience.

If you satisfy both basic requirements above, you are eligible to participate in the Green Card Lottery.
Note that after completing your online DV Lottery application, you will be asked to provide a photograph of yourself and all family members you include on your registration form. Additional information is available about the PHOTO REQUIREMENTS.

PHOTO REQUIREMENTS
All applications must include recent photographs (taken within the last 6 months) of the applicant, spouse, and each child (including all natural children, legally-adopted children, and stepchildren).

All photographs must conform to the following basic specifications:

The person being photographed must be directly facing the camera.

The head should not be tilted up, down, or to the side.

The head must cover about 50% of the area of the photograph.

The photo should be taken with the person being photographed in front of a neutral, light-colored background.

Photos taken with very dark or patterned, busy backgrounds will not be accepted.

The person's face must be in focus.

The person in the photograph must not wear glasses, sunglasses, head coverings, or any objects that obscure the face.

Do not send group or family photos. A separate photo is required for each family member.

Digital specifications.
In addition, photos must meet these electronic file requirements:

The image must be in the Joint Photographic Experts Group (.jpg) format.

The image must be in color. Black and white, monochrome, or grayscale images will not be accepted.

Digital images from either a digital camera source or a scanned photograph via scanner will be accepted.

If a new digital photograph is taken, it must have a resolution of 600 pixels wide by 600 pixels high and a color depth of 24-bit color.

If a photographic print is scanned, the print must be 4 inches by 4 inches (10 cm x 10 cm) square. It must be scanned at a minimum resolution of 300 pixels per inch (ppi) and with a color depth of 24-bit color.

The maximum image size accepted will be 240,000 bytes (240 Kb).
