Applications are invited for the 2027 Honjo International Scholarship Foundation Scholarship in Japan. The scholarship is offered by the Honjo International Scholarship Foundation, which supports international students studying in Japan and promotes international friendship and goodwill. Applicants can apply directly to the Foundation through its online application system without university pre-selection.

SCHOLARSHIP BENEFITS

Successful applicants may receive:

·       ¥230,000 per month for a 1–2 year degree program.

·       ¥210,000 per month for a 3-year degree program.

·       ¥180,000 per month for a 4–5 year degree program.

·       Scholarship support for the shortest period required to complete the intended degree.

·       Travel support for attending international conferences, subject to the Foundation's rules.

·       Opportunity to study at a graduate institution in Japan.

·       Access to the Foundation's international student and alumni network.

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA

Applicants must:

·       Be an international student.

·       Be enrolled or applying for a Master’s or PhD program at a graduate school in Japan.

·       Be enrolled in a program lasting more than 12 months.

·       Have a strong intention to contribute to and serve their home country in their future career.

·       Have an understanding of international friendship and goodwill.

·       Be willing to participate in events organized by the Foundation and join its alumni network.

·       Be able to hold everyday conversations in Japanese, as interviews after submission are conducted in Japanese.

·       Start the Master’s program before turning 30.

·       Start the PhD program before turning 35. No exceptions are indicated.

·       Meet the admission requirements of the intended Japanese graduate institution.

AVAILABLE PROGRAMS

The Honjo International Scholarship supports:

·       Master’s Degree Programs

·       PhD / Doctoral Degree Programs

Applicants can pursue graduate studies in eligible fields offered by Japanese graduate institutions.

REQUIRED DOCUMENTS

Applicants should prepare:

1. Academic transcript

o   Must be in Japanese or English.

o   A translation should be attached if the original is in another language.

2. Research Proposal

o   Must be prepared using the designated template.

o   The proposal should be written in Japanese.

o   It should explain:

·       What you intend to research.

·       How your studies or research will contribute to your home country.

·       Your previous research, academic and social achievements.

3. Recommendation Letter

o   A recommendation letter from your academic supervisor.

4. Proof of Admission

o   Admission letter, acceptance letter, or another document proving admission.

o   Students already enrolled in graduate school should provide a certificate of enrollment.

Step 3: Complete the application through the online application system.

Step 4: Fill in the required information and upload the supporting documents.

Step 5: Submit the application before the deadline.

The online application instructions are available in both English and Japanese. Applicants are advised to be careful when using automatic translation on their devices because it may interfere with some functions of the online application system.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

·       Applicants may apply directly to the Honjo International Scholarship Foundation without university pre-selection.

·       Both students who are already enrolled and those who are applying for admission may be eligible, provided they meet the scholarship's enrollment requirements.

·       The scholarship payment period is determined according to the shortest period required to complete the intended degree.

·       Once the scholarship payment period begins, it cannot be changed.

·       Programs with an enrollment period of less than one year are not eligible.

·       The Foundation expects recipients to maintain connections with its network and participate in relevant activities.

·       Applicants should carefully verify the current intake year and enrollment date requirements on the official scholarship announcement before applying.
